Scaling Teeth For Patients In Bartow, Lake Wales, Mulberry, Winter Haven, Lakeland & Surrounding Cities

Scaling TeethScaling teeth is done by a dentist to remove the calculus and dental plaque that irritates your gums. Over time, this plaque can cause your gums to become inflamed and bleed. If left untreated, this inflammation will lead to the earliest stage of gum disease which is called gingivitis.

Once you have gingivitis, if it is not addressed, the inflammation will move down your teeth towards your tooth’s foundation. This causes a periodontal pocket, which creates even more damage. The supporting structures of the teeth will begin to break down. Your teeth will then begin to loosen. To stop the progression of gum disease, periodontal therapy will be advised. It gets rid of the bacteria in the periodontal pocket and then helps your gums adhere more firmly to your teeth.

There is scaling teeth and there is a procedure called root planing, these procedures are not the same.

  • Scaling Teeth – is the process of removing tartar/plaque from the surfaces of your teeth.
  • Root Planing – is when your dentist smooths your root surfaces and removes any part of your tooth that is infected.

If these procedures are done correctly, approximately every six months, the cycle of the gum disease is broken and the onset of gingivitis is prevented altogether. Sadly, most people are not aware that they have gum disease until major damage has already been done. This is because there are usually few symptoms indicating the early stages of gum disease. Contact us for more information or to schedule your oral exam for a consultation today.
